The Art Of Alex Soldier

A visit to a designer’s showroom is always exciting – you get to see their designs in a more intimate setting and you get a behind the scenes glimpse of their daily work life. I was thrilled with an invitation to visit jewelry designer Alex Soldier’s showroom, I had admired his gorgeous jewelry for sometime. Little did I know how this visit would become more about the spirit behind his designs than the fashion pieces that Image may be NSFW.

make up his collection. Bustling through Times Square you will find Alex Soldier’s showroom and studio a small haven away from the noise. With one foot across the threshold you realize that this visit is much more about the soulful connection with art than the commercialization of jewelry.

Originally from Russia’s Ural region, Alex is a self taught jewelry designer with a master’s degree in computer engineering now located in New York City. His practices are not ingrained in traditional jewelry design, making each handcrafted piece extremely unique.

Not only has Alex designed some of the most breathtaking pieces of jewelry your mind could imagine, but also he has created statues and awards for various occasions including Princess Grace Foundation. The attention to detail, the dramatic placement of stones and the texturizing of metals combine to create jewelry designs that are truly works of art.

Many of Alex’s designs mimic nature. His most notable natural subject is the snail. A piece he chose to emulate because it serves as a reminder that we should ‘take it slow and enjoy life.’

There were moments during my showroom visit when tears were brought to my eyes after hearing about his inspiration behind a piece. Instead of rushing through my visit anticipating my next appointment, I listened, I learned, and I gained the utmost admiration for a man who isn’t just creating jewelry to mass market, he is creating designs that will change the way you look at jewelry and deepen your understanding of art and design. Owning a piece of Alex Soldier isn’t just adding to your jewelry collection, it is owning a piece of art that when you wear it you feel a spiritual connection with. It is owning a piece that you will hold dear to your heart and pass down from generation to generation. Alex Soldier is sold at select Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, and you can visit his website to order AlexSoldier.com – designs begin at $750 and up.
